FAQ: Why are the Situational Questions So Difficult?

One of my favorite classes I have every made is my Situational Practice Questions Course. The course was designed for the student who has studied all the exam material, but is getting stuck at that 22-24 score because of difficulty applying their knowledge to the difficultly worded situational questions. It is also a great addition to other RD Exam Prep programs you might already have because it is all new questions.Â
Â
These questions are more different than other RD Exam prep courses (including my regular practice question classes), but they are designed to be difficult and I worded them specifically to trick you so that you can learn HOW to answer these questions correctly from getting them wrong.
Â
With this course most students are getting 50-65% of of questions correct and the goal is to leave each class understanding how to answer that style question in the future and identify trouble areas that you need to loop back to vs get a "passing" score.
Â
It is totally normal to feel frustrated in this course as most students score lower in these questions vs ERP or Pocket Prep Questions. This is intentional because these are the type of questions you are likely getting wrong on the exam and not realizing you are getting wrong because they are designed to point you to read the question incorrect and have answer options that might be correct, but are not the BEST answer.
Â
The goal with this class is to better train you to correctly apply your knowledge and build test taking strategies. It can feel stressful at times, but that is why making a study schedule and utilizing the course correctly is key! This program is one of my most effective programs with average score increases of 3-4 points!
Â
With this course the best way to tackle the class is to start by watching the Vocab Classes (included in the Situational Bundle & the Membership). These courses are designed to give you a solid baseline of vocabulary, which is a section we often forget). Next start with Lesson A (90 minutes) and watch the class and take notes. Focus on understanding why you are getting questions wrong:
Â
Is it because you read it wrong?
Is it because you picked an intermediate or second best answer?
Is it because you need to study that topic again?Â
Is it because you felt overwhelmed?
Â
There are many reasons why you are getting a question incorrect. Before you move onto the next video you want to make a list of the trouble areas from that video. These are the questions you got wrong because you didn't have a full understanding of the topic. These should be specific (i.e. financial, pediatric, TPN and not just Domain 2 and 4). Next take time to study these trouble areas. This is when you can loop back on any study material you have, purchase another course or also email me for help (I'm always just an email away). After you have studied for your trouble that is when you move into the next Lesson B.
Â
Situational students also get access to 30 minute tutoring sessions which are great for making a schedule as you start the course or extra support along the way!
