Learn More About the DJF Nutrition Internship from a Past Intern

Why Work For DJF Nutrition as an Intern?

Working as a DJF Nutrition intern was my first experience in the nutrition field. It’s a decision I made that I will forever be grateful for, not just because of all the experience I got during the internship, but all the other unquantifiable benefits of having a mentor like Dana and learning about the systems, the dedication, and the tiny behind-the-scenes details that make a private practice/tutoring business actually work.

What to Expect

The DJF internship experience is all about learning how a real nutrition business runs; the thoughtful, quiet, essential tasks that make everything flow smoothly.

You’ll get hands-on experience with:

  • Understanding how a nutrition brand grows behind the scenes

  • Research to support digital programs, clients, and content

  • Administrative support that keeps a practice organized

  • Contributions to blog posts, educational materials, or social content

  • Seeing how operations, creativity, and evidence-based care all intersect

It’s the kind of practical foundation that you don’t always build in school, but absolutely matters in the real world.

Dana’s Mentorship: The Part You Truly Can’t Quantify

Dana isn’t just one thing. She’s a professor, a private practice RD, an RD exam tutor, a clinical dietitian, a media educator, and a business owner who built a thriving company from the ground up. Her experience touches almost every corner of this profession, and she lets her interns learn from all of it. As an intern, you will have weekly check-ins with Dana to ask her any questions you have, whether it’s MNT-related, business-related, or internship or RD exam-related, you have access to her expertise and mentorship throughout your time as an intern and long after.

Beyond mentorship, Dana’s network is wide and generous, and she opens doors for interns in ways that genuinely shift their early career trajectory, myself included. One of the most special parts of working with Dana is how she somehow always knows exactly where to point you. Curious about clinical? She has advice. Thinking about private practice or digital education? She’s walked the path. Interested in teaching, media, counseling, or community work? She either knows the answer or knows exactly who you should talk to next. Dana can connect you with someone in almost any area of the field, and she does it with easy generosity that makes you feel like she’s genuinely invested in where you’re headed.

Finally, Dana remembers exactly what it’s like to be in an intern’s shoes: balancing the pressure of school or DI rotations, feeling overwhelmed, doubting yourself, and trying to figure out where you actually fit in this profession. She remembers the pressure of studying for the RD exam and the mental load that comes with it, and she goes out of her way to make that part of the experience a little lighter. Every intern receives access to her full RD exam tutoring library for free, along with pep talks, study tips, and the kind of reassurance that only someone who has lived it can give.
